Château Strike FX – Work in Progress 2

0 Comments | This entry was posted on May 16 2009

Some more work on the Chateau shot. I got much more going on here. Two seperate particle systems. Building system and ground system. Its built totally procedurally so I can shoot the missiles anywhere and they’ll do the right things.  It feels quite powerful now.

There isnt any compositing yet, or passes. Its just everything all in one render. More to come.

Floating Explosion? Yah we got dat.

Floating Explosion? Yah we got dat.

I’ve laid down some initial explosion systems in 3dsMax and Afterburn. I can’t figure out a good visual solution for getting the smoke trails out of the way. I also cant seem to thin their density fast enough to look good.

I feel like a good Hollywood version of this would be rolling the camera thru the scene, or cutting shots, to solve this problem.

That and a lot of Fume FX, less AB :)

Je te dis adieu, Château de Chambord!

shit be nuts.

shit be nuts.

Color tinted for the 40s era because I really love the building on the left. I wish I had blown up THAT one.

I’ve put the lid on this project right now.  I’m pretty happy with a lot of it and if I was to go back and do it all again I think I oculd have done it twice as good, four times as fast and been that much happier.

I added some buildings from Korea in the hole left in the plate when the building drops. I painted the effects mask to keep the trees and things in place on the bridge.

Color correction in Fusion which didn’t really make it thru the compression and Vimeo.  Color profile nonsense I suspect.

I’m working on some new effects in Max. I took a plate and I’m bringin down the building!  So far I’ve used Rayfire, and Afterburn.

First I blew out the sides using PhysX thru Rayfire but then I brought the rest of the building down with Reactor. What I wouldn’t give for a PhysX concave solution.  Or a multi core CPU solver for that matter.

More to come.
